How Can severe Painful Gallbladder Stones Be Treated?
hello Doctor, I have a 2cm gallstone seen on xray. It is causing me pain, feeling bloated at times. The pain can be so painful at times, that I don t want to move. I still need an ultrasound of my gallbladder due Tuesday. My doctor said that if it s causing pain, that I will need surgery. He advised me to be on clear liquid at the moment. I don t want to go to ER today since I can still bear the pain. Is there a way to avoid surgery? What is your advice?
Generally the gallbladder stones when they start to be painful this is because they are moving and are blocking the entrance of the gallbladder. When this happens there is a risk for complications and most likely cholecystitis which is inflammation of the gallbladder.
Unfortunately there is no other way to treat it effectively but surgery so it is important for you to follow the instructions of your doctor and have the surgery. If surgery is planned generally has much better outcomes then if you would need to have it urgently due to complications from the gallbladder stone.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
